The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has verified and approved a total of 50 movies for the month of May 2017.
According to the data made available by the agency, a breakdown of the movies shows that the English language category accounts for 80 per cent or a total of 28 of the 35 movies.
A further perusal shows as that one Yoruba language movie, 3 Igbo language movies, 1 Bini language movie, 1 Ibibio and 1 Efik language movie respectively, were all approved in the review period. A total of 15 films also were verified and approved for public exhibition (cinema) for the month of May 2017. The approved movies are to be released with their respective consumer advisories of imitable technique, strong language, violence, drug abuse, and fetish rituals.
A further look at the verified and approved movies by their ratings showed that only two movies (one for home video and another for public exhibition) have the PG rating, implying for general viewing with parental guidance, 16 movies were rated 15, meant only for persons 15-years and above and 32 movies were rated 18, meant for mature audience.
